Talking About Difference at Home
Jul 06, 2026
In my latest episode of The Everyday Global Citizen Podcast, I reflect on how we talk about difference at home - and how these everyday moments shape whether children grow up with curiosity or uncertainty.
In the episode, I explore how:
- Children notice differences long before they understand them
- Avoiding conversations about difference can create confusion, not inclusion
- Silence also communicates what is acceptable — and what is not
- Openness is built in everyday moments, not big conversations
What stands out to me is this:
Children don’t need us to erase difference.
They need us to normalize it.
Because when difference is treated as something natural,
children learn to approach it with curiosity - not discomfort.
If you’d like to explore this more deeply, I invite you to listen to the full episode of The Everyday Global Citizen Podcast.
